News Coverage

The Topeka Capital-Journal ran a great story about KMOM which they published on Saturday. Also, KTKA 49 News ran coverage Friday morning from the KMOM clinic floor. WIBW 13 ran coverage as did KSNT 27. All in all, we are very pleased with the coverage of the event and we would like to thank the public relations committee for the wonderful work you did.

KMOM Topeka Numbers

Here they are, straight from the press. We treated 1815 patients for a dollar value of $1,052,440 and a total of 3522 teeth were pulled over the weekend. More to come ...

Mission Completed

KMOM Topeka is now complete and we are working up the final numbers on patients treated and the dollar of the service we provided. What a wonderful event and we are honored to have had the chance to meet and to serve so many wonderful patients. Right now, we are in the process of digging out and we will get more information, stories, letters and other comments posted. Thank you again to everyone who helped in one small way or another to make KMOM Topeka a wonderful event.

Writer's note:
For those expecting more blogging during the event itself, I truly had hoped to do that. However, some computer problems (it seemed that every laptop we touched over the weekend crashed) and I was mainly only able to update via my Treo. I hope to make up for that in the upcoming few days as more information is completed.

We are still taking patients

We have let in 825 patients and we are taking 1200. We will post an update when we are closing.

Doors are open

We have opened the doors to patients. Right now, the patients are filing into the stands. I am always so amazed at the first group of patients who have stayed so long for dental care.

Day 2

The patients are in line, the volunteers are beginning to show and yes it's really 4:45 am. We're about fifteen minutes from opening the door. Quick update, our volunteers provided about $540,000 in dental care yesterday.

Last patients are in the chairs

It took more than twelve hours, but the final patients of the day are in the chairs. Thank you to all the patients for braving the cold to allow us the distinct privilege of helping our fellow human beings. We truly hope that we were able to provide you with quality dental care that took care of your most urgent dental needs. For those coming tomorrow, remember that we want you to stay safe. Please stay in your cars and keep warm or follow the posted line rules if you line up for care.

Update

As a four o'clock this afternoon, 843 patients were seen. There are still patients in the chairs being treated.

Update

Finally, the numbers ... We have seen 611 patients and donated $284,145 in patient care as of 1 o'clock this afternoon. There are still a hundred patients in the stands. More to come ...

Update

We have had some tech problems with our laptop and have not been able to get patient treatment numbers. Otherwise, the patients are beginning to dwindle. We have received so many wonderful comments from the patients and we are truly honored to have had the opportunity to serve. When we have numbers, we will post them.

Video

Video is now online ... this is from dental hygiene.

8 o'clock and all is well

It's 8:45 now and I am finally getting this post up. The floor is in full swing. We let about 1100 patients into the clinic and we are working our way through. One patient said she was having all her teeth pulled so she could smile in a family photo. She then broke down in tears. Wow. I will try and get some video footage up soon.

Patient Treatment has begun.

Our first patient of the day is now in the chair. As the day goes on, we'll keep you updated on the clinic status.

It's 3:45 a.m. -- and yes, there are patients

The first of the patients arrived yesterday around 3:00 p.m., more than twelve hours ago. When I walked by the patient line this morning, I would guess that about two-hundred have decided to brave the harsh elements to wait in line for dental care. The determination of these individuals to seek dental care is tremendous. The doors to the clinic will open in about an hour and soon, volunteers will begin arriving to sign in patients. It should be a fun day and we are all excited for the opportunity to help others.
